Clients who have featured my illustrated reportage work:
As an experienced live scriber and sketch noter, I can transcribe your conference meetings into full colour visual treatments in real time, highlighting the key points and preserving an annotated record of the information in a impactful, memorable way. My clients for this type of specialised work include: The Associated Press, British Red Cross, National Geographic, the BBC and Poynter News Institute. I am proud to be a global brand ambassador for Etchr Lab as well as a illustrated reportage instructor at the global Urban Sketchers Symposium.
There are 3 different approaches I use to cover a meeting or event: 1. On a giant bristol board; 2. In my sketchbook from the audience; 3. Digitally on a tablet hooked up to a monitor/projector.
1. Giant Bristol Board
Sketching live on stage or discretely from the audience, I synthesize and capture the key points from speeches and render them in an eye-catching, accessible way that will resonate with audiences long after the event is over.
2. Sketchbook Summaries
As a live sketcher, I can work in real-time at events in my sketchbook, visually translating the content of live panels, talks, or presentations into visual souvenirs by combining direct quotes with sketches of the presenters, as you can see below.
These pages can be immediately displayed to attendees, and always generate a wonderful buzz. Here’s what I produced over the course of the two day Experience Engagement Conference in Portland, Oregon.

I regularly sketch live in the field, interviewing people on the street and combining them with environmental sketches to capture the vibrancy and dynamism of urban scenes, as part of my work as an urban sketcher. I’m delighted to have been an instructor at the Urban Sketchers Symposium over the past two years – it’s truly a global, inspiring event that brings together livesketchers from all over the world.

My typical tools of the trade are a fountain pen, brush pen, and water brush pen for adding watercolours to the finished artwork. I work straight in ink to save time and to harness the raw energy of live sketching – no pencil underdrawings or erasing! I’m proud to be an Etchr brand ambassador and always use their incredibly versatile sketchbooks and art materials.
3. Sketching Digitally on a Tablet
Sketching digitally allows for timelapse replays and exports to different file formats, as shown below, or in recent work for the Associated Press, who hired me to livesketch the 2019 Winter Olympics in South Korea, and the British Red Cross.
One of a series of timelapsed animations I produced for the British Red Cross as part of their anniversary celebrations, linking their storied history to the present day.
