Ex Kamlaris Work their Way out of Slavery

Another interview from the far western region of Nepal where I’ve been this week, working with Nepal Youth Foundation to speak with ex-Kamlari girls who were once forced to work as domestic servants. Leela (pictured above) actually sold herself to pay for get school fees. Hit ‘previous’ for more info on the Kamlaris and to read other sketch interviews from this week. Comics from the open border at Mahendrenagar coming tonight.

Click on the Nepal project panel in the right sidebar for how to support this project via PayPal, or watch the intro video via the Kickstarter link on the left.

Global Forum on Human Trafficking

I will be attending the Global Forum on Human Trafficking in Sunnyvale, CA today and tomorrow to meet like-minded abolitionists and discuss new ways of combatting human trafficking (through visual storytelling, in my case). If you’re a new visitor to the site, check out my trafficking page for information on my Borderland comic, which translated the voices of several victims of human trafficking in Eastern Europe into comics format. Also, be sure to check out the latest details of my new storytelling project, focusing on trafficking in India and Nepal, which will take place in April/May of next year at my new site Graphic Voices.

School of the Americas, part 2

Next three panels of my piece on the School of the Americas. To start at the beginning, just hit previous for an intro to the SOA and its heinous past.

Remember, this piece and the Honduran coup comics I put together with Nikil Saval are available in hard copy format via the chipin widget on the right hand side bar, shipped directly to your door for $5 plus $2 shipping. Or you could just click here.

Below is a film I highly recommend, viewable free online, about the SOA and the part Father Roy Bourgeois has had in fighting to get it shut down:
